As of 5/12/2008, Canaan Conservation Area, in Gasconade County, is now open to
horseback riders.  **Information page now added.

Many trails are closed now due to flooding or winter storm damage.  I have many closings
listed on the individual trails pages, but in general, it would be a good idea to check with the land
manager who's in charge of the trail you'd like to ride before you go ride it.

MDC has started distributing  trail rider surveys.  These surveys have been made in cooperation
with the other land management agencies. Some are being mailed out, others can be picked up
from various locations or events.  Or, you can contact them at:
Horse.Survey@mdc.mo.gov to request one.
PLEASE send yours in and let your voice be heard about your needs and wants on Missouri's
trails, as well as the time, money, & effort you put into your passion!


Goggins Mountain Trail at Johnson Shut-Ins State Park will not be open until sometime in
2009.  They are building a brand new campground area in the same area where the original
equestrian trailhead parking was located.  Plans are for a non-equestrian campground, as well as a
section for equestrians, to camp.  

There are two more trails found to be open to equestrians.
1. Pomme De Terre Lake, managed by the US Army Corp of Engineers.  
Near Bolivar, MO (SW Region)

There is a link to the trail brochure on this page.  As soon as we can visit the trail to get
all the information we need, I'll officially add it to the website.

2. Bergan Lake, managed by Jackson County Parks and MDC.
Near Kansas City
Horseback riding is permitted by special permit.  There is no trail.
Contact 816-503-4800 for permit and requirements.
