January 2008 Newsletter
President's Message:

Welcome to the first newsletter of our brand new club.

I wanted to write this newsletter as kind of an announcement about the club and to explain a
few things to start out with.

At the moment this is an informal club.  If it ever gets big enough to warrant it, we might
make it a formal, non-profit club, but that will be voted on by members of the club in the
future if it's ever deemed fitting.  However, just because it's an informal club, doesn't mean
that we won't try to run it as correctly as any other formal saddle club.

Each member will have a voice and a vote in all matters that affect the club, from our
activities, to voting for club officers, to helping to write and pass our club's By-Laws.

Our officers will be a simple affair, and I want to give fair warning ahead of time..........  As
long as I produce Missouri Trailblazing and run the Missouri Trailblazing Website, I will
always be the President.  If, for some reason, I ever retire from it, decide to sell the rights to
my book and website, or pass away, then the position of President will be filled by whoever,
if anyone, decides to carry on my dream.  At this point, if any of that happens, then my first
choice to carry things on will be Lalita Creighton, should she decides she wants to take on
the challenge.  If she decides not to, then anyone is free to volunteer or be nominated, to be
voted on to become President.  As long as Lalita decides to stay involved with Missouri
Trailblazing, and as long as she wants to be in the position, she will always be Vice President.
Should she decide to step down at any time, she is welcome to, then that position can be
volunteered for, nominated for, and then voted on.

The positions of Secretary and Treasurer can be volunteered for until such time as we've
gotten enough members for someone else to volunteer or be nominated, and then voted on.
In future meetings, we will decide what term each position will be filled, as well as if we will
have any kinds of committees, and if anyone is interested in volunteering for those.

By virtue of the fact that this is a state-wide club instead of a local saddle club, some things
will have to be run differently.  Like our meetings.  We will have our meetings as a scheduled
online chat once a month.  Being state-wide will also make a big difference in the activities
we can participate in, and how we will all interact.  Please have patience with us as we figure
out how to make this kind of club work.  Any ideas that anyone has to offer will be
welcomed.  I also intend to send out e-mails to work through different ideas at first, in
between the meetings.

The first couple of Chat meetings, we will work on our By-Laws, Calendar, ideas of what
we want this club to be and do, and ideas for sponsors and money raising.  Lalita has already
started a set of By-Laws that we will go through, decide on any changes, if any, and then
vote on.  Changes in the By-Laws can be voted on at any meeting that a need arises.

As soon as I can set up a chat room, we will agree on the first meeting date and time and it
will be announced in an e-mail and on our website.  Meetings will be open, not only to
members, but to non-members who are interested in learning about us.  They just will not
have a vote unless they become official members.

Since I run the Missouri Trailblazing Website, and the club website is part of that website, I
will also be the webmaster of the club website.  For now I will write the newsletter, but that
is a position that is open for someone else to volunteer for, especially if they have the ability
to make the newsletters PDF documents that I can add to the website.

Okay, I guess that's it for the moment.  Happy Trails until next month!
