Lauri Struve

Lauri Struve grew up with horses in northwest Iowa. She was riding her 1st pony long
before she could get the saddle on her, that’s what big brothers were for, and hers got a
work out! Lauri showed horses through high school in 4-H, AQHA and open shows. She
specialized in western pleasure, horsemanship, equitation, halter and showmanship at halter
and trail where available. Occasionally, she would take her pleasure horse through a barrel
pattern.

Lauri spent 14 years in broadcast news, and was the first host of Hoofbeat on Brownfield
Network. She has also been a contributing writer to Equestrian Central.

Currently, Lauri is a 911 dispatcher, and spends her free time riding the trails of central
Missouri with her trusty partner, Shadow. If you hear someone making A LOT of noise
coming down the trail, guiding with her legs, and waving a tree branch to get the cobwebs
and horse flies, that’s her.

Lauri would love to talk you through any issues you and your equine partner are having on
the trail, or be the first person you ride with when you take the plunge and leave the arena.

Soapboxes she may climb on include helmets, the importance of common sense, (which she
occasionally leaves at the barn), picking and choosing information from the big name
trainers, and a few other things that may pop up.

Hopefully her columns will be helpful, and even a little humorous. She can be contacted at
