Sonny Spot O Shadow
aka Shadow
By Lauri Struve
1994 gray and white tobiano double registered IAHA /ATHA Half Arabian Gelding

Shadow is an only horse. He is quite special. We first met, in 1999 when I borrowed him for
a Memorial weekend ride.  I fell head over heels in love at first sight.

I was able to bring him home on Halloween of that year. I moved to Missouri in April, and
he moved Labor Day weekend. Our first Missouri trail ride was with the Missouri Cattlemen’
s Foundation at the Joanna Trail. It was GREAT.

Since then, we have ridden Berry Bend, Panther Creek, Whispering Pines, Ozark Trails,
Trail of the Four Winds, Prairie Home, Scrivner, Cedar Creek, and some back country trails
by Butler. We don’t count our trip to Rudolph Bennet because we were lost the whole time.

Shadow stands between 15.3hh and 16hh. He is kind enough to allow me to use anything I
can balance on as a mounting block. He did object to the car trunk… but that’s another
story.

Shadow was born in Southwest Iowa, his Momma is an Arabian mare named Sheik.
http://www.grullablue.com/mares/sheik.htm He has two half siblings, a Beautiful red roan
mare named Amira and ASStro, who also lives somewhere in Missouri. He was well loved
at his first home, and that continues here! The most interesting thing about Shadow and Sheik
is that if they are side by side, and you look over at them, despite the size difference, it’s
hard to tell them apart! They were pasture buddies until Shadow moved on with me.

His sire is Sonnys Fast Idle, I don’t know much about him, but a web search shows that my
boy has some half siblings on that side of the family that have won serious money competing.

Anyway, Shadow’s best qualities are willingness to go and do, and patience when I leave my
common sense at the barn.

He is a certified Search and Rescue horse, and we are members of the Osage Beach Fire
Protection District SAR team. He is registered as a Half Arabian and as an American Trail
Horse.

Shadow likes goats, treats and rubbing his head on anything or anyone in reach.
