New Breed Western
Saddle Pad and Western Girth
By Lalita Creighton
The only place I’ve found that carry these products is Horse.com (formerly Country
Supply).  The material used in both the girth and the pad is polyurethane-coated foam.
There are ‘beads’ of this material that are bonded together in a waffle-weave sort of pattern,
allowing the air to circulate through the pad or girth.  This air circulation allows your horse’s
back and girth area to stay drier, with no galling.  I do recommend a light blanket on top of
the pad, simply because otherwise the sweat off your horse’s back may get in the fleece or
felt lining of your saddle.  The pad comes with wear ‘leathers’ (really plastic) bound to the
pad with nylon and the girth is bound in nylon with plated steel hardware.  The girth also has
billet pockets on both ends.  Clean-up of these products is a breeze.  Just wash with a mild
soap, rinse, and allow to air dry.  The pad and girth dry very quickly since the only water-
absorbing material is the nylon.  An acquaintance of mine has a Reinsman Tacky Too pad,
and said that this pad is similar except it doesn’t have the blanket top like the Reinsman.   No
affiliation with Country Supply or the manufacturer, just a happy customer.

Additional New Breed products that I haven’t tested:  Roper style girth, Western Seat
Cushion, and English saddle pad.
