Instead of an article here, I thought, since I've been asked by several people, I'd list some of the best places to ride
when it's wet.

Of course, all of the trails listed in the "Road Riding" Section are good for riding, as long as they have actual lots to
part in.  The ones where you are expected to pull off on the side of the road might not be good since you might sink
in the grass.

Berryman Trail has a lot of gravel road riding available, and Sam A Baker State Park's trail is so rocky, that I can't
think of anywhere there that would be a problem. Some trails in Greensfelder, Paddy Creek Wilderness, and
Huckleberry Ridge would also be good, although there may still be some boggy areas.  Most of the southern trails
would be better suited to riding in wet weather.  None of them north of I-70 would be good because there is no
bedrock base like the southern trails tend to have.

The main thing you have to worry about during the wet weather season is flooding on the trail by the steams, and also
on the road on the way to the trail.
Glade Top Trail

Glade Top Trail is a 23 mile, gravel road, that is open year-round, even during hunting season.  This is a perfect
place to ride during the wet weather season.  It's road riding, but it's interesting.  Road Runners, Armadillos, a fire
tower, and a view to Arkansas can all be seen here.   For more in depth information, and a map,

The only place I’ve found that carry these products is Horse.com (formerly Country Supply).  The material used in
both the girth and the pad is polyurethane-coated foam.  There are ‘beads’ of this material that are bonded together
in a waffle-weave sort of pattern, allowing the air to circulate through the pad or girth.  This air circulation allows your
horse’s back and girth area to stay drier, with no galling.  I do recommend a light blanket on top of the pad, simply
because otherwise the sweat off your horse’s back may get in the fleece or felt lining of your saddle.

We are going to try and feature a new
video every month.  We will have
training videos and  obstacle course
videos, but our intent is to start having
riding videos from the trails when
weather and time allows.

Here, we're just trying to show that you
can take any horse, do basic ground
work, even in bad weather, to enhance
your bond and fine tune your horse.  No
fancy aids or indoor riding arena
needed.  Saddle time is best, but any
time spent with your horse will benefit
you both.
